ELLIS CEMETERY

This community cemetery Click here for picture is near Ashbrook on a ridge 3 miles out Hwy 53 (from US 62).
It is just west of a utility line easement and surrounded by a wire fence. Although not easily accessible,
it has been cleared of underbrush leaving the rows of markers easily found apart from oak leaf buildup.
There are many fieldstone markers, and usually both head and footstones are present whether inscribed or native stone.
ME Walker III noted in his 1975 transcription of this cemetery that the Cox and Deringer stones were inscribed soapstone (fieldstone).
Of these, only one remained readable in February 2008.
All the Goodlett graves are in an iron fenced enclosure. Two stones (Brown and Riley) not found in earlier transcriptions were located with a probe.

Tom Graham, David Sengel and Kate Jacques, 2 February 2008
