In consideration of the sum of One thousand five Hundred Dollars paid me by Thomas L. McKee, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged. I Joseph Griffey Jr. have sold and hereby convey with general warranty unto the said McKee a certain tract or parcel of land situated in Anderson County Kentucky on the waters of Salt River and containing One hundred and twenty acres, be the same more or less, and bounded on the North by the lands of J.M. Gudgel, on the West by the lands of [Miss] [L.E. McKee], on the South by the lands of Daniel Middleton deceased, and on the East by the Lawrenceburg and Freeman’s Bridge turnpike and being the same tract of land of which my Grand-father Joseph Griffey died seized and possessed the same land which was conveyed to me by Mary C. Griffey & others by deed of date December 23, 1893 land of record in the clerk’s office of the Anderson County Court in Deed Book [ ] page six. To have and to hold said tract of land with the appurtenances tenements belonging to him the said Thomas L. McKee and his heirs and assigns forever. The [Graveyard] as it is now [fenced] is assessed out of this conveyance. Wherefore I have hereunto subscribed my name this [3]0th day of April 1895.

I, P.H. Thomas Clerk of the Anderson County Court certify that the foregoing deed from Joseph Griffey Jr. to Thomas L. McKee on April 30th 1895 produced to me in my office and acknowledged by the said Joseph Griffey Jr. to be his act and deed and was lodged for record. Whereupon I have recorded the same and this certificate given under my hand this July 15th 1895.

**Transcriber’s Note: Legal phrase:"seized and possessed": an expression meaning that one is legally in possession of a tract of land** **Joseph Griffey Jr. cannot be Joseph William Griffey, Jr., son of Joseph William Griffey, because he died in 1892. This is eitherJoseph Andrew Griffey, son of Benjamin Griffey, or Joseph William Burrus Griffey, Jr., son ofWilliam Burrus Griffey, Sr. **Mary C. Griffey was the daughter of Joseph William Griffey, Jr. and Ann McMichael, and therefore a sister of Margaret E. Griffey. She married Abraham W. Griffey, son of Benjamin Griffey and Margaret C. Whitenack. Mary C. Griffey and Abraham W. Griffeywere first cousins.
