BORDERS: Peter & Esther Continental W2914 North Carolina B.L.WT. ---15173---160--55

Allen County, Ky., 8 July 1833 in Justice Court, PETER BORDERS aged 77 deposes: In June or July 1778 in Rowan County, NC there he resided. He entered service as private in the militia as substitute for PETER WORKMAN under Capt. DAVID SMITH and served 3 months. In 1780 was drafted and served under Capt. WRIGHT as sergeant and served 6 mo. In 1781 entered service in Guilford Co., NC (his residence still being Rowan Co.) as substitute for ADAM POWERS and served then in a company of horse commanded by Capt. JONES. Served 5 months.

Enlisted as a regular soldier for and during the war at '96 in SC in August 1781 and served as pvt. on the company of dragoons commanded by Captain POWERS. Served 1 month when he was taken prisoner by the Bristish at Eutaw Springs, SC and prisoner until Summer of 1782 when he escaped and repaired to Gen. GREEN then at Corchester and from him received a discharge and permit to return home. From time he was captured till he received his discharge was not less than 8 months.

He was born 4 Jan. 1766 in Bucks Co., Pa. He was living in Rowan Co., NC when called into service. Since the war he had lived in Greenville Co., SC, in Tenn., and now in Allen Co., Ky. He was in the Battles of Camden and Guilford C.H. and Eutaw Springs.

Refers to REUBIN MESSAKER, JEREMIAH HINTON, GEORGE FOLLES, and EDMUND WAGGEONR as men of his neighborhood who can testify to his character.

SAMUEL SEARS of Saugomon Co., Ill. deposes that he lived near PETER BORDERS in Rowan Co., NC during the Revolution. "My brother lived about 4 miles from the residence of JOHN BORDERS who was the father of said PETER and with whom he lives." Swears to knowing of the service of said PETER BORDERS.

The justices of the Allen County Court before whom PETER BORDERS make his declaration are WILL HORN, JOHN CARNTH?, WILL FITZPATRICK, SAMUEL HUTSON and THOMAS SUTTON.

13 Dec. 1840. Allen County, Ky. Before ANDREW HARRISON, JP ESTHER BORDERS deposes: Aged 72 and is widow of PETER BORDERS and she married him 16 August 1786. He died 31 July 1837.

Allen Co., Ky. On Dec. 13, 1845, SAMUEL SEARS then testifies he was present at the marriage of PETER and ESTHER BORDERS on 16 (or is it14?) Aug. 1786 Rowan County, NC the ceremony being performed by THOMAS PHELPS, Esq.

A. HARRISON, the Justice of the Peace, declared he has known the above SAMUEL SEARS who is a preacher of the Gospel many years.

On 20 March 1841, SAMUEL SEARS, DANIEL MYERS and MARY MYERS testify in Allen County, Ky. to having known PETER BORDERS and ESTHER his wife for 2? years and they knew CATHERINE BORDERS who died about a year since and believed her to havebeen born as early as the 3 March 1787 according to the entry in the old Dutch Bible now shown them.

Allen County, Ky. April 30, 1855, ESTHER BORDERS swears she gave her certificate for pension to one HENRY S. MOSS at Glasgow, Ky., and it is lost of mislaid by said MOSS. She now resides in Barren County and has for the past 5 years. That she is not about 107 years old. And she asks for a duplicate certificate.

JOHN W. DURHAM and NANCY BORDERS of Barren County, Ky., testify May 23, 1855 that they are personally acquainted with ESTER BORDERS, Widow of PETER BORDERS and that she is the identical person named in said Duplicate Certificate.

State of NC Comptroller's Dept. Statement that among the records of Sundry persons for military service in the Rev. war is: PETER BORDERS or BERDAUSE or BERDAUX, which is submitted for PETER BORDER on the probablity that the said BORDER's name was originally written BERDEAUSE or BERDAUX, as the name PETER BORDERS does not occur on the will.

Covering Jacket: Peter Borders of Allen County, Ky., was pvt. and sergt. in the Co. of Capt. Smith, regiment of Col. Rutherford, NC line 11 months pvt. of infantry. Six months pvt. cavl. 6 months sergt. Inscribed on the Kentucky roll at $91.66 per year to begin 4 March 1831. Certificate of Pension issued 25 Sept. 1833.

Esther Borders inscribed on Ky. Roll at $91.66 per year to begin 31 July 1837. Certificate of pension issued 29 April 1841.
