Richard Thomas READ, stockman and farmer, was born in Allen County, Ky., April 25, 1835, and moved to Missouri in 1854. He first located in Jasper County, but at a later period, the same year, came to Lawrence County. He is a son of Richard and Frances (DUNCAN) READ, and grandson of Robert and Nancy (BROWNING) READ. They were all born in Virginia, the father being a native of Culpeper County, and a farmer and mill-wright by trade. The grandfather was also a mill-wright and farmer. Richard T. Read, our subject, was married to Virginia MORRIS, who was born in Allen County, Ky., October 31, 1842, and by her is the father of the following family: James Henry, Nancy Sarah, Donna Arabelle, Isadora, Mason Theopolis, Charles Saunders, Ludia Martin, Ida Alice and Abbie Louella. The family are members of the Baptist Church.
