Indenture of Apprenticeship

This Indenture made this _1_ day of __September_ one thousand nine hundred and ___ten__ between __ESKEL LEE OAKS __________ by W.H. Justice, Clerk of the county court of Allen County, in the State of Kentucky, of one part, and ____ANNIE LEE JONES_of the other part;

 

Whereas, by an act of the General Assembly, the Judge of said Court is empowered to bind out orphans and poor children, which parents are incapable of bringing them up in moral courses, therefore the Court made the following order, to-wit:

Upon information given by AMANDA  K. OAKS, mother of ESKEL LEE OAKS a minor boy child 3 yrs of age that said Minor is destitute of Support that she has never been married but that WALLACE CARTER the father of the child does not help Support said child and that she has not the necessaries of life sufficient to support said child and upon motion of said AMANDA  K. OAKS, it is ordered that said ESKEL LEE OAKS be bound unto Mrs. ANNIE LEE JONES until he is 21 year of age and he is to be taught the business of farming whereupon the said ANNIE LEE JONES appeared in open court and agreed to accept said Mastership and the Clerk of this court is directed to enter into indentures binding said Minor as aforesaid whereupon the Clerk and the said ANNIE LEE JONES entered into and acknowledged indenture according to law in open court

 

Now, therefore, this Indenture Witnesseth, that the said W.H. Justice, clerk of said Court, as above recited, hath put, place and bound, and by these presents, doth put, place and bind the said __Eskel Lee Oaks__ apprentice to and under the said __Annie Lee Jones___ with _her_ to dwell, and _him_ to serve, in the condition, duty, and character of an apprentice, until the said __Eskel Lee Oaks___ shall arrive at the age of ___21___ years, fully to be completed and ended--- that, during all the said period, the said ___Eskel Lee Oaks____shall faithfully serve the said __Annie Lee Jones__ master, in all lawful business, according to the best of _her__ wit and ability, and in all things honestly, orderly and obediently demeand and behave __himself__; and the said ___Annie Lee Jones___  doth for __her__ heirs, executors, and administrators, covenant and agree with the said ___Eskel Lee Oaks__ that he, the said __Jones___ will teach the said _Eskel Lee Oaks__ the trade, art, and business of __farming_ and will find, provide for, and allow to the said ___Eskel Lee Oaks_  sufficient diet, wearing apparel, washing, lodging, proper medical attention, and all other things usually allowed to apprentices by good and just masters, and will treat _him_  with humanity --- that she the said __Anmie Lee Jones_will  __send the said Eskel Lee Oaks to the common schools the same as her own child

 

In witness whereof, the said _Eskel Lee Oaks__ by the said W.H. Justice, Clerk as aforesaid, and the said __Annie Lee Jones__  have hereunto set their hands and seals, on the day and year first above written
