Indenture of Apprenticeship

The Commonwealth of Kentucky

 

This Indenture made this _13_ day of ___October  _ one thousand eight hundred and ___ninety (1890)__ between __JOHN THOMAS RICKMAN__________by N.J. Guy Clerk of the county court of Allen County, in the State of Kentucky, of one part, and ____MAJOR RICKMAN__of the other part;

 

Whereas, by an act of the General Assembly, the Judge of said Court is empowered to bind out orphans and poor children, which parents are incapable of bringing them up in moral courses, therefore the Court made the following order, to-wit:

ordered that the clerk of this court enter into Indenture binding JOHN THOMAS RICKMAN to MAJOR RICKMAN until he is 21 years of age to learn farming

 

Now, therefore, this Indenture Witnesseth, that the said N.J. Guy, clerk of said Court, as above recited, hath put, place and bound, and by these presents, doth put, place and bind the said ___John Thomas Rickman__ apprentice to and under the said __Major Rickman___ with _him_ to dwell, and _him_ to serve, in the condition, duty, and character of an apprecntice, until the said __John Thomas___ shall arrive at the age of ___21___ years, fully to be completed and ended--- that, during all the said period, the said ___John Thomas Rickman____shall faithfully serve the said __Major Rickman__ master, in all lawful business, according to the best of _his__ wit and ability, and in all things honestly, orderly and obediently demeand and behave __himself__; and the said ___Major Rickman___  doth for __his__ heirs, executors, and administrators, covenant and agree with the said ___John Thomas Rickman__ that he, the said __Major Rickman___ will teach the said __John Thomas__ the trade, art, and business of __Farming_ and will find, provide for, and allow to the said ___John Thomas Rickman_  sufficient diet, wearing apparel, washing, lodging, proper medical attention, and all other things usually allowed to apprentices by good and just masters, and will treat _him_  with humanity --- that he the said _______________________________
